Oral History Projects

Theater artist Tikka Sears will work with teachers to introduce interviewing skills and ethics to workshop participants. Participants will then interview members of the community.  Topics can be based on a theme chosen in collaboration with each group. Participants will then transcribe the interview and create a 1st person narrative monologue from their interviewee. Participants will then collaboratively write a short play based on their collective interviews.  Basic theater principles of staging, gesture, tableaux and embodiment will be introduced. Interactive Theater

This is a form of theater that blurs the traditional divide between actors and audience. We use interactive theater as a tool for personal empowerment and social transformation, and as a means to convert passive observation into social action. Forum Theater is an interactive theater workshop in which audience members become active in exploring ways to intervene in potentially contentious situations. This workshop gives you skills to engage in constructive conversations with colleagues, students or anyone surrounding issues of privilege and oppression. Read more…

Residency

Memory War Theater offers a variety of workshops and residency options for all ages.  We have conducted month long oral history projects in collaboration with schools as well as longer residencies and partnerships with community organizations. In addition to our interactive theater workshops, oral history projects and Indonesian Mask Dance and Puppetry workshops, MWT can work with community partners to design a custom residency to suit your program goals, timeframe and budget.  Read more…
